1. Structural Principle
High pressure reciprocating pumps are positive displacement pumps that rely on the reciprocating motion of pistons or plungers within the pump cylinder to change the working volume. They typically consist of a power end, fluid end, and transmission mechanism. Multistage centrifugal pumps are dynamic pumps that use centrifugal force generated by high-speed impeller rotation to continuously deliver seawater. 2. Operating Characteristics
High pressure reciprocating pumps deliver stable pressure output, with flow rate largely unaffected by discharge pressure fluctuations. They maintain consistent high pressure output within the rated pressure range, with high volumetric efficiency and minimal overall performance variation under changing pressure or flow conditions. They adapt well to a wide pressure adjustment range. Multistage centrifugal pumps operate through centrifugal pressurization, providing smooth and steady flow with virtually no pressure pulsation, low vibration, and low noise. However, their discharge pressure fluctuates significantly with changes in flow rate.
3. Application Scenarios
High pressure reciprocating pumps are suitable for small-to-medium scale RO seawater desalination projects with variable operating conditions — where wide pressure adjustment and high efficiency are required, and vibration/noise sensitivity is relatively low. Multistage centrifugal pumps are better suited for large-scale RO seawater desalination plants — where stable flow supply is critical, noise control is important, and operating conditions are relatively steady with limited pressure adjustment needs.
In RO seawater desalination, there is no inherently "better" high pressure pump — the choice depends on project scale, operating conditions, and site-specific constraints such as noise and vibration limits.
